Teen films - A Definition

A teen film is defined as a film that:

• A) Features one or more teen characters, who contribute to the action in a poignant way.
• B) It could also be a film that deals with teen life, but not necessarily seen through the eyes of a teenager.
• C) And finally a teen film might also simply be a film which is aimed at teens, either through its message, locations or plot.

We should point out that we subscribe to Hollywood's rather loose definition of a teenager, which basically mean any young person from 10 to the late-twenties, and also that we've decided to exclude Teen slasher films, which is basically a genre in itself, unless they have a special focus of teen problems, or teen life.

Chick flicks - A Definition

This one's a little more broad. Basically a chick flick is any film that appeals to a female audience. Either directly, because it deals with female characters or situations, or indirectly, because it deals with male characters or situations! Also included under this banner are films that will appeal to a male audience, because it features female characters or situations.

And one last thing...

We call it "teen films" and "chick flicks", but what we're really talking about is any theatrical, television or video product in general or limited release, in any form including feature films, short films, documentaries or TV-series.
